How to choose the right leak detection method

Economy is one of the key factors in choosing a leak detection method. It is relatively easy to consider the economy of the leak detection method alone, but it is difficult to comprehensively evaluate the economy of the leak detection method from multiple aspects such as leak detection requirements and production requirements. There are several main factors that affect this correct decision. The main factor is leakage specifications, while other factors include testing pressure, workpiece size/volume, workpiece material, testing environment, and production rate.

Pressure attenuation and mass flow testing

The method of pressure change is to use a pressure sensor, differential pressure sensor, or mass flow meter to measure the change in pressure, which is caused by the change in gas volume in the testing unit. Pressure attenuation and mass flow leakage testing are commonly used in the testing cycle, and leakage testing is most widely applied as it directly depends on the stability of the workpiece temperature and volume. These methods are based on the ideal gas method (PV=nRT). During the testing period, slight changes in the temperature and/or volume of the workpiece may result in unsatisfactory testing that is inconsistent with the workpiece volume, leakage rate, and time period. To meet the testing requirements, the pressure difference or related flow rate between qualified and unqualified workpieces must be significantly greater than the influence of temperature or volume changes (temperature and volume changes are affected). Understanding and controlling these changes can help achieve good economic effects.
